Cloudy Bay Chardonnay 2013/14 £21.99

Tasting Notes
The appealing nose of our chardonnay affords aromas of stonefruit, white floral, smokey oak and spice. The palate it fresh and lively with a bright acid backbone. Flavours abound of nectarines & peaches, juicy citrus and grapefruit pith. Good length with delicate texture and a fine mineral thread. Our chardonnay  is an ideal partner to richer foods such as steamed crab, grilled white fish and fresh egg noodle pasta.
Vineyard Notes
We selected the grapes for our chardonnay from vineyard blocks located in the Brancott, Fairhall, Ben Morven and Central Wairau Valley sub-regions. These vineyards grow a mix of our preferred low yielding Mendoza and B95 clones and the vines excel in their alluvial soils. Each site produces a unique flavour profile and allows for an assemblage of a complex and balanced wine.
Winemaker Notes
We hand picked our vineyards according to their flavour profile over a three week period. Harvest commenced on the 20th of March and finishing on April 12th. Time of harvest was in line with a typical year and fruit was recieved in ideal condition. Brix levels at harvest were between 21.8 and 24.7.

The Wine Front, May 2013
“This chardonnay from Cloudy Bay really pours it on. What a wild beast this chardonnay is. It’s loaded up with funk and struck matches and yet it’s powerfully fruited too. It’s an outstanding wine in the funkified style. Melon, grapefruit, lime, fennel and smoky flinty notes aplenty. Great persistence. Satiny texture through the mid palate but tart and smoky through the finish. If you like your chardonnay clean and/or understated then this isn’t for you; otherwise, it’s wonderful.” - Campbell Mattinson

Wine Orbit, December 2013
“Cloudy Bay Chardonnays have been known to mature beautifully, and no doubt this will too, yet this wine shows immediate appeal and charm as well. The fragrant bouquet shows stone fruit, citrus, oatmeal and subtly infused cedary oak aromas. It’s concentrated and richly textured on the palate with excellent intensity, backed by beautifully integrated acidity. Multi-layered and very promising.” - Sam Kim

Wine Spectator, November 2013
“Nicely balanced between a creamy texture and crisp acidity, this offers fresh fruit flavors of lime, grapefruit, peach and melon, with spice and dried floral accents and a minerally edge on the finish.” - MaryAnn Worobiec
